Installation of i-Gallery 3.4 or 4.1 PLUS

ATTENTION!
As a reminder... if your database is not in a secure location, with the correct settings move your igallery.mdb to a data folder on your server that is not accessible to the Web and has the proper IIS settings for a data folder.  There have been reports of "Turkish Hackers" breaching some copies of i-Gallery!  We are assuming that the hackers are downloading the igallery.mdb from a folder (database) that is accessible via the Web then deciphering the passwords to gain a back-door entry.  If you need IIS instructions for securing a data folder please see below:

Setting IIS Permissions For Data Folder
First off we reccommend changing the name of igallery.mdb to something not familiar to hackers.  Then follow these simple instructions to set the proper IIS settings for your data folder:
  • Click on "Start", then on "Control panel", then double click on "Administrative Tools"
  • Double click on "Internet Information Services"
  • Browse to your database folders by expanding the menus on the left.
  • Right click on your database folder and select "Properties"
  • Uncheck the "Read" box
  • Click "Apply"
  • Click "OK"

  • [1] Unzip the i-Gallery package
Unzip the "igallery34.zip" file or the "igallery41s.zip" file.  Locate and open the new i-Gallery directory on your server.
    • Move the following files to the directory you want i-Gallery to reside.

database *** Move to your servers secure data folder (do not use this folder) ***

    • Move the "isecure.mdb" to your Webs secure IIS data folder (see left).  The folder you use must have write permissions enabled (Modify for the compact & repair feature).  Most servers typically allow one folder that has write permissions for database procedures but can not be read from the Web.  If you need instructions setting up such a folder I have put a little tutorial together on the left.  Make sure to adjust the settings in the "include>>connection.asp" page to indicate the location of your database.  i-Gallery will not work if it can not communicate with the database (igallery.mdb).
    • PLEASE NOTE: If Parent Paths are not enabled on your server you can adjust the connection "string/type" in the "include>>connection.asp" page.  A good indication that parent.paths are not enabled are the following error message(s):
      • Server.MapPath()error 'ASP 0175 : 80004005' Disallowed Path Characters
      • ASP error 0131 The include file "Include Name" cannot contain '..' to indicate the parent directory.
      • The Page Cannot Be Displayed - HTTP 500-Internal server error
To fix this... change the connection string from the default "virtual path" to the "physical path" setting.
    • Launch i-Gallery in a browser: http://www.yourdomain.com/igallery/default.asp

  • [2] i-Gallery System (First-time) Settings
If your database connection string is configured properly in "include>>connection.asp" you will be presented with the "System Firsttime" window. Follow the instructions that are given for each of the global settings.  You will need to adjust the following for i-Gallery to work properly on your server:
    • Physical Path
    • Resource Locator
    • Thumbnail Application
    • Date Format
    • Records Per Page
    • Max. Upload Size
    • Admin's Email
    • Email Server
    • Email Application
    • Allow Online Photo Submissions
  • IMPORTANT NOTICE:  After successful completion of this section immediately "DELETE" the "system-firsttime.asp" file from your server. This is an unsecured file and hackers familiar with i-Gallery can exploit this file!

  • [3] Good To Go!
If you have configured the "Physical Path" setting correctly, i-Gallery will let you proceed to the main page.  You will always be able to re-adjust your initial i-Gallery settings when you log in as an administrator.
  • IMPORTANT NOTICE:  After successful completion of this section immediately "DELETE" the "system-firsttime.asp" file from your server. This is an unsecured file and hackers familiar with i-Gallery can exploit this file!

  • [4] Login to i-Gallery 3.+/4.+
Click the login button located to the far right of the date. »»
    • Login to i-Gallery using the default login credentials:
      USERNAME: fullsite
      PASSWORD: fullsite
    • Navigate to the "Manage Users" page from the left menu.  Add your administrator username and password and delete the default users that ship with i-Gallery.  A "helper" credential under the name "Blue-Collar Productions" has been added so I may assist users with configuring i-Gallery. Make sure to delete this along with the other admins that ship with i-Gallery.
  • PLEASE NOTE:  As an extra safety precaution (for older versions) manually open the database to make sure the admins that ship with i-Gallery have been removed (Site Administrator, View & Edit Only, Blue-Collar Productions).

  • #5 Enjoy i-Gallery! (v4.1 shown left)

Installing Language Files

i-Gallery 3.4+ & 4.1+ now offer language files.  The program ships with the English pack and as other languages become available I will add them to the download page.  If you are interested in translating the language files you can download a copy here.  When your done send it back to me and I will get it posted on the Web site.

  • To install a new language pack unzip the downloaded language files into the directory "language".  The unzip might create a "new folder" (ie: "language_ger") within your "langauge" folder.  If so... make sure to move the language files from the newly created folder into the "language" folder root.  All done!

Upgrading to i-Gallery 3.4 or 4.1 w/sub-folders

Well I am sorry to say that this is a complete rebuild from all prior versions of the [3 & 4] series so upgrading is not so pretty. All files including the database have changed so for those of you who have re-worked i-Gallery into your Web... well you might want to re-consider the upgrade!  For i-Gallery 4.0 users the process is not painful at all.  See Below:

  • i-Gallery 3.+ users: This is a complete rebuild so I recommend installing i-Gallery 3.4 in a seperate directory from any other version.
  • i-Gallery 4.0 users: I recommend installing 4.1 PLUS into it's own directory then simply target your old "upload" directory in i-Gallery's system set-up.  If upgrading from i-Gallery 4.0 to i-Gallery 4.1 PLUS it is possible to maintain your old database titles, descriptions, counts, etc. as the "Descriptions" table did not change  Simply copy your old table [Descriptions] from your i-Gallery 4.0 database [igallery.mdb] into the new database.
